Dental Implants For Permanent Smile Restoration

Replace Missing Teeth And Love Your Smile Again

Tooth loss affects more than your oral health. If you’re missing some of your teeth, you may feel self-conscious about your appearance, have trouble eating your favorite foods, and even have difficulties speaking clearly and confidently.

At Everything Dental, Dr. Lawrence Fischer is here to help! As an expert in implant dentistry in Charleston, SC, Dr. Fischer can permanently restore your missing teeth, boost your confidence, and help you get your oral health back on track.

What Are Dental Implants?

A dental implant is a very small, screw-shaped piece of titanium that’s surgically implanted into the gums and jawbone in the area where you've lost a tooth. Over time, the titanium metal permanently bonds to the jaw in a process called “osseointegration.” The result is a strong, stable artificial tooth root that can hold a dental restoration in place.

The most common type of restoration is a dental crown (false tooth) that’s used to replace a single missing tooth. Once the crown is in place, you will have a natural-looking tooth that will never shift or move. This is a great option for patients who have lost only one or two teeth.

However, if you’ve lost many of your natural teeth, multiple dental implants can also be used to support an implant bridge, a set of implant-supported dentures, or even fixed dentures with All-In-Four. At Everything Dental, Dr. Fischer specializes in implant dentistry and can help you explore all of your options for replacing your missing teeth and enhancing your smile.

The Benefits Of Dental Implants

  • Lifelike results – At Everything Dental, Dr. Fischer uses the latest technology and materials to create a beautiful, seamless smile. Your new implants will integrate perfectly into your smile and will be virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth.
  • Amazing functionality – Unlike dentures, implants will never shift or move. This makes it much easier to eat your favorite foods, speak clearly, and smile with confidence. You’ll never have to worry about your implants shifting out of place.
  • Long lifespan – With proper care, dental implants can easily last 30 years, and many patients are able to keep them for the rest of their lives. This makes implants a great long-term investment in your smile, especially when compared to alternatives like dentures and traditional bridges.
  • Prevents bone resorption – Since they are surgically implanted into the jawbone, dental implants stimulate the bone tissue and prevent it from weakening. This preserves the integrity of your jawbone and prevents sagging and other changes to your facial appearance, too.

  • Easy to care for – You can treat single-tooth implants just like natural teeth. Make sure you brush twice a day, floss once per day, and see Dr. Fischer for a checkup every six months. Implant bridges and implant-supported dentures take a little bit more maintenance, but are still very easy to care for!

The Dental Implant Process

Initial consultation

First, you’ll meet with Dr. Fischer for a dental implant consultation. He will start by examining your mouth and taking X-rays of your teeth to determine if you’re a good candidate for implants. At this time, you can also learn more about the procedure, get insights into potential costs and payment plans, and get answers to any questions you may have about dental implants.

Preparatory treatments (if needed)

In some cases, you may need additional preparatory treatments like tooth extractions or bone grafts before you can get dental implants. At our office, Dr. Fischer specializes in PRF bone grafting, which helps strengthen your jawbone for dental implants more quickly and ensures the best possible outcome for your case.

Placing your dental implants

Dr. Fischer will begin your implant surgery by cleaning and numbing your mouth. We also offer sedation options to keep you comfortable during your visit. Next, Dr. Fischer will create an opening in your gums and jawbone. He will place a dental implant in the perfect position based on your surgical plan. This process will be repeated if you’re getting multiple implants.

Healing and recovery

After your surgery, you’ll be sent home to heal and recover. Dr. Fischer will provide you with a full set of instructions to follow as you heal. You can usually get back to your normal routine within 1-2 days, and the initial healing process takes 2-3 weeks.

However, it will take between 3-6 months for your dental implant to heal and bond with your jawbone. You will come in for multiple follow-ups during this period so that Dr. Fischer can check your progress and begin crafting your implant restoration, such as a dental crown.

Final implant restoration

Before your final visit, you may need to come for a quick visit to have an abutment placed on your dental implant. This is a small piece of metal that allows your implant to connect to your dental crown.

Then, a few weeks later, you’ll come in for your final appointment at Everything Dental. Dr. Fischer will check your crown to make sure that it fits perfectly and make any final adjustments. Then, he will attach your crown to your implant and restore your smile permanently.
